Big Pharma Creates Customers, Not Cures - It's the CEO's #1 Job

Big Pharma is not in business to see sick people get well. They do not want to find the cure for cancer. The mission statement of any hardline CEO is this: to maximize profits for shareholders. Don’t take my word it though. Who am I? Just some dude blogger trying to sell an opinion? Take it from guys like Martin Shkreli, former CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals.

Once Upon a Marijuana Story – What Marijuana Anonymous Gets Wrong

Every cannabis testimonial was presented in the exact same format. At first, the kid would talk about how they were introduced to weed. These scenarios vary from testimony to testimony. The marijuana story then would progress to how much they started smoking and associated activities (parties, hanging out with friends, etc)

Thailand Unveils Their First High-End Medical Marijuana Grow Facility

Cannabis legalization in Thailand is moving full steam ahead, but it isn’t without controversy. Cannabis has always been treated as a narcotic, in a country that has gained notoriety around the world for their harsh drug laws. It took the world by surprise when the National Legislative Assembly last year approved a law which enabled cannabis to be used for medical purposes.

We Need More Research - The Last Cannabis Excuse Exposed

The idea that we “need more research” when it comes to cannabis simply isn’t accurate. We have plenty of research on this plant, especially since we’ve been studying it for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Of course, modern medicine requires certain standards when it comes to research, however, even by modern standards we have enough research available to conclude on the safety of cannabis.

High Life, Sudbury’s Second Cannabis Store, Still Waiting for Its License

Business is, to put it mildly, brisk at the Canna Cabana, Greater Sudbury's retail cannabis store in the South End. Since opening April 20, lineups outside the store at the Four Corners have become the norm, with legal weed buyers facing long waits to make their purchase. It's something Anton Lucic knows well. The owner of the city's second cannabis store – located on Marcus Drive – said Tuesday he's as impatient as anyone to…

This Cannabis Facility in Santa Rosa, California, Is the Coolest Tour You’ll Take All Year

Dennis Hunter spent six and a half years in federal prison for growing cannabis. "I ended up going on the run, looking at a really long sentence," said Hunter. "I was a fugitive for about four and a half years and then they caught me." Today, Hunter is the CEO of CannaCraft, the Santa Rosa, California-based company that makes some of the most popular products available for sale at dispensaries across California. There's absoluteXtracts, a…

Massachusetts Recreational Marijuana Sales Top $100 Million Post 420

Dan Adams of the Boston Globe gives a great rundown on the state of cannabis in the state of Massachusetts this week in his weekly email.   Now that Massachusetts has actually opened a few dispensaries so that people can actually buy recreational cannabis, they are seeing sales tax come rolling in.

Are You a Cannabis Stan?

A cannabis stan is an ultra-devoted cannabis fan, an extreme cannabis fan if you will, that will not only support and endorse the cannabis plant to the highest degree, but also refuse to talk or discuss any perceived negative aspect of the plant or legalization.  The mantra of a “cannabis stan” includes the following phrases written over and over, and then, if you disagree, written over and over in all capital letters.

Why CBD is a Parent's Best Friend

Parent or not, anyone can tell you that being anxious or stressed out will also lead to trouble sleeping. However, CBD can help you get some shut-eye. CBD itself doesn’t make you go to sleep, but it’s actually the terpenes in the plant that help sedate you in a natural way, oftentimes even far more effectively than over-the-counter sleep aids. When you take CBD in the evenings, it can help you get that much-needed deep slumber to help you recover, giving you more energy to challenge the next day head-on.

The Best Florida Man Weed Stories Ever Recorded

Today, I’d like to look at the best “Florida Man” weed stories. Florida is known for its wackiness at an almost cartoonish level. Some of the Florida Man stories can be quite gruesome. For instance, “Florida man stabs couple and eats dead man’s face” is just one example of how Florida Man can go to the side of the horrific.

How Israel is Utilizing Artificial Intelligence for the Cannabis Market

Seedo isn’t the first nor are they the only ones who have enabled people to grow cannabis easily in containers. There are around a dozen more other manufacturers who are working on similar farming systems around the world, which makes home growing in climate-controlled environments simple, without sacrificing light, water, nutrients, and airflow.

In Florida, You Can Purchase Cannabis Through a Drive-Thru

Louisiana has drive-thru margarita spots, and now Florida has its own drive-thru dispensary. It actually has a few. Curaleaf opened a new drive-thru cannabis dispensary in the United States a few weeks ago, its 23rd dispensary in the state and 43rd in the country. The company currently has the largest number of dispensaries in the United States at 43. The new drive-thru is located northwest of Miami International Airport. The company actually piloted the program…

3 Reasons Aurora Cannabis Is a Better Pot Stock Than Canopy Growth, and 1 Big Reason It Isn’t

No. 2. Runner-up. Second fiddle. All these terms have applied to Aurora Cannabis (NYSE: ACB) over the past couple of years. Even as the Canadian marijuana producer made one acquisition after another to fuel growth, it seemed to still always trail behind one other company. That company, of course, is Canopy Growth (NYSE: CGC). But Aurora has stepped into the limelight more than ever in 2019. Its stock has outperformed all of its peers --…

8 Ways To Grind Weed Without A Grinder

After all, grinding your cannabis is a crucial part of the experience, so when you don’t have one with you, it could be a hindrance to actually getting high. Whether you’ve lost it, lent it to a friend and forgot about it (stoner moment!), or are on vacation and left it at home, not having a grinder can make just about anyone lose their cool.

Weed Drinks Are Set to Dominate the Cannabis Market in Canada

From cannabis beer to margarita-flavoured THC tonics, weed companies are betting big on beverages. As I sit here writing a story about the future of edibles, I’m battling an edible-induced hangover. I can’t really blame anyone but myself. I smoked some weed at home and then to satisfy my accompanying munchies, I ate a medicated brownie because I had no other snacks in the house. At midnight. It was tasty so I ate the whole…

Ontario Becomes 1st Province to Demand Pharmacists Complete a Cannabis Education Course

Course details risks, dosage forms and common side effects of the drug. Ontario pharmacists have a little less than a year to get up to speed on weed if they want to practice in the province. The Ontario College of Pharmacists has made cannabis education mandatory in the wake of legalization and in anticipation of legal edibles set to arrive this fall. The regulatory body has told its members they have until March 27, 2020…

Coming out of the Marijuana Closet – Dispelling Stoner Lore

However, for those who are merely afraid of the social stigma, understand that consuming cannabis is about “you” and not everyone else. It’s a personal choice, and while some people might think you’re a “drug addict”, they can go to the seventh circle of hell for all you care. It’s your life, take responsibility for your actions and simply admit that you smoke weed.

PayPal, Bank of America, Ben & Jerry’s, and Big Alcohol: Unlikely Allies of the Cannabis Industry

Tech giant PayPal, multinational investment firm Bank of America, world-famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s, and even beer and tobacco companies may not seem like the type of companies that would support cannabis legalization, but they’ve come out to say that they are.

New Cobourg Medicinal Marijuana Facility Aims to Hire 1,500 People by 2021

A company specializing in recreational and medical cannabis aims to hire 1,500 people for its plant in Cobourg, Ont., in two years. On Friday, FSD Pharma celebrated its awarding of its sales licence by Health Canada last week. The plant is based on William Street at the former Kraft Foods plant. The company says the site could become one of the world’s largest marijuana-producing facilities after it spent several years retrofitting the near 4-million-square-foot plant…

Yes, Cannabis is a Drug, So Get Over It

One of the memes or mantras of the pro-cannabis crowd is that cannabis is not a drug, it is a plant.  A similar meme or saying says “I don’t do drugs, I use Cannabis”.  Unfortunately, although we are as pro-cannabis as you can get here at Cannabis.net, cannabis is a drug as it’s compounds can pass through the blood-brain barrier and impair cognitive skills, slow response time, and alter your sense of reality.  The idea that cannabis CAN’T be a drug because it is just a plant is way off base as well unfortunate.

Plant-Derived Cannabis Extracts Decrease Symptoms Of Dementia Says New Study

Another study published in 2017, led by Professor David Schubert and researchers at the Salk Institute in California, found overwhelming evidence that THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids are beneficial in getting rid of proteins in the brain that cause dementia. This protein, called amyloid beta, was believed to appear in the brain prior to Alzheimer’s symptoms. But they found that administering cannabinoids helped in effectively removing it.

Chronic Pain Sufferer Confesses to Using Cannabis Before ‘This Morning’ Appearance

Today’s episode (26 April) of This Morning saw chronic pain sufferer Carly Barton discuss the medical benefits of cannabis. To the surprise of hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, she revealed that she had actually used some before she went on air, before explaining that she has started growing her own when it proved too dangerous to get it elsewhere. “It wasn’t great,” the 32-year-old told hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes when they asked…

11 Ontario Cannabis Stores Have Been Fined $12,500 for Not Being Open Yet

Under the rules, retailers had to open by April 15 or face penalties. Almost half of 25 licensees haven't. Cannabis retailers in Ontario who have failed to open their stores by a government-set deadline are facing a new round of financial penalties. In all, eleven pot retailers have been fined $12,500 each for not opening their stores by April 15. Twenty-five retailers were selected through a government lottery to open the first brick-and-mortar cannabis stores…

Why Didn’t President Obama Legalize Cannabis on His Way Out the Door?

This was a golden chip, a political gift to be able to give the people when the opportunity was needed.  According to the New York Times, Hillary Clinton had a 92% chance of winning the election at 4pm on election day.  To quote a sports analogy, this election was in the bag, there was no mathematical way that Hillary could lose.  One theory is that Barak left the gold ticket, or gift, for Hillary to use when she became president, the Democrats could take credit for legalization and score huge brownie points with big swaths of the voter population.

OMG! I Smell Weed Everywhere, Now!

As far as day to day use and smelling it as you walk down a street or enter a locker room or movie theater, well, that is just something you are going to get used to just like other smells that may offend you in life.  Some people don’t shower much, and you must sit next to them on a plane or bus.  With cannabis, you could have been around a loud batch of cannabis flower earlier and still smell like it, just like someone who works in a casino and their clothes smell like smoke.

Trump Says it's Immoral for Immigrants to Work in the Legal Cannabis Industry

What’s a legal immigrant to do now? The US government continues to allow the country to shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing all these problems to happen. It isn’t right to allow immigrants to be called “immoral” for working in an industry that is completely legal, but it’s up to the federal government to stop considering cannabis a Schedule 1 substance once and for all. Until that happens, we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.

2 Big Reasons Aurora Cannabis Stock Could Rise to New All-Time Highs

This incredible growth story is far from over. Shares of Aurora Cannabis (NYSE:ACB) have been on a tear in 2019. The leading marijuana producer's stock is already up more than 80% so far this year -- and a staggering 2,000% over the past three years. But the marijuana industry's torrid expansion is still in its early innings, and plenty more gains could still lie ahead for this cannabis stock's investors. Here's why. - Read the…

Early Data Suggests No Post-Legalization Spike in Drug-Impaired Driving Charges

Canadian police say they haven't been busting many more stoned drivers six months after legalization, but they are reminding drivers to keep cannabis out of reach. The Canadian Press canvassed police forces across the country and most reported no significant change in the number of impaired driving charges laid, while some said it's too early to release data, and at least one reported a rise in charges. Dozens of charges have also been laid under…

Lucier later went to the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and helped fill their shelves with food and other necessities. - Read the entire article at CTV News.

It’s High Time You Make These 20 Vegan Cbd and Cannabis Recipes

420 Day is here again, so why not celebrate with vegan cannabis-infused recipes? The day supposedly got its namefrom a group of California schoolkids in 1971, who set out to find an abandoned crop of marijuana as laid out in a treasure map. They arranged to meet in the afternoon at 4:20 which has entered popular culture as an alternative name for cannabis. CBD is short for Cannabidiol, which makes up 40 percent of the…

Seth Rogen Joins Calls for Cannabis Amnesty in Canada

Actor Seth Rogen is joining calls for the Canadian government to expunge the criminal records of drug users who were convicted of simple pot possession. Rogen used this year's 4/20 event to draw attention to the Cannabis Amnesty campaign, which wants the government to issue "blanket pardons" for the offence now that recreational marijuana has been legalized across the country. "4/20 is also about activism and I'd like to raise awareness to some of the…

Why is Marijuana Illegal, Anyway? Meet Harry Anslinger

When old Harry’s new job at the helm of the Federal Narcotics Bureau was threatened with, namely, a lack of things to do, he decided to go after what he felt was the biggest threat to his beloved country. Darkies. Approaching an audience that counted as mostly as white protestant, he enslaved the masses with the usual white-supremacist trope about how how all the countries precious fair-skinned women were in danger

Are you Obsessed with Cannabis?

If you ‘love’ something or ‘respect’ something, it becomes difficult to look at that “thing” objectively. Whenever someone presents information that is contrary to the narrative that sustains your bias, most people immediately take a defensive position. Instead of objectively analyzing the data, we resort to dismissive tactics aimed at discrediting the clashing narrative in the hopes of maintaining the status quo. However, this a counterproductive approach if “truth” is the objective of your knowledge seeking.

They say the cannabis connection they share is lifesaving. Their special day took place at a dispensary, not a church or a country club. What are the Cheapest and Most Expensive Cities to Buy Weed in North America?

Based on their current data, Quebec is the cheapest province to buy cannabis from, at C$6.75 a gram. Quebec has long had the reputation of being so against cannabis but despite that, residents have been able to enjoy the lowest prices of cannabis in the country. We also have to take into consideration that the strict policies in Quebec may actually be causing the prices to decline, since black market cannabis is still cheaper than legal pot.

This unofficial cannabis holiday might as well already be official. No matter which way you look at it, it’s an important date that brings in big business for an industry that’s growing quicker than you can take a hit. This year, 4/20 lands on a Saturday, and is expected to bring in the most sales compared to the rest of the year. Last year saw a 111% spike in cannabis sales on this holiday, and today those figures might get even higher.

7 Common Women's Health Issues Cannabis Could Dramatically Improve

In the meantime, women in states that permit medical cannabis use find themselves staring at a veritable cornucopia of cures at their local dispensary. Despite many female entrepreneurs entering the industry, the medical cannabis world remains dominated by males. However, the times really are a-changing. Increased access to research demonstrating the efficacy of medical cannabis for treating common female ailments will result in more women enjoying safe and effective pain relief.

You Can't Knock Me Out! Cannabis Users Need Twice the Anesthesia To Go Under Before Surgery

They found that patients who consumed cannabis daily or weekly were less sensitive to many different types of anesthetic drugs compared to patients who never used it. What was interesting was they discovered that it required a 14% higher dose of fentanyl, 220% more propofol, and 20% more midazolam to effectively sedate the patients for the endoscopy. Because the nature of the procedure means that very sensitive orifices in the body will be affected during endoscopy, a good amount of anesthesia is needed for proper sedation.

Cannabis Nurses: An Emerging Specialization And Vital Resource For Seniors

Cannabis can be a game-changer for older adults suffering from chronic pain, anxiety and insomnia. But with cannabis, finding the sweet spot that does the trick – that highly personal mix of delivery method, dosage and timing, can be too daunting for many older adults. Nurses who specialize in cannabis medicine are increasingly stepping in to help seniors navigate that path. Eloise Theisen, a board-certified geriatric nurse practitioner based in Walnut Creek, California, has been…

What the Secrets of Ancient Graves Tell Us About Our Long Relationship With Cannabis

One day, about 2,500 years ago in western China, a man was laid in his grave. A wooden bed was placed in the grave under him, and a pillow of reeds under his head. Around him, they placed earthenware pots, and on top of him, as a blanket or shroud, they laid 13 fully grown, uprooted female Cannabis indica plants, with their roots placed below his pelvis, and the branches and flowers extending toward his…

10 Ways to Celebrate 420 in Toronto

Easter and Passover aren’t the only holidays being celebrated this weekend. Saturday marks Canada’s first legal 420 festivities. April 20 has long been touted the unofficial day to celebrate cannabis culture, but not many know why the day was chosen. According to TIME, the term 420 stemmed from a group of friends at San Rafael High School in Marin County, California. The group, who dubbed themselves “the Waldos,” often gathered at 4:20 to smoke a…

What is the Most Obnoxious-Type of Cannabis Hater?

I’m not here to argue with either of these standpoints. As much as it makes me cringe to say there’s a chance that Cannabis can become physically addictive, acknowledging the possibility is necessary. It seems arrogant to claim a blanket statement that covers the entire human race. People are different. Genetics, family history, there’s a slew of things that comes into play when considering the different ways in which addiction displays itself, but in saying that, can’t anything that feels good become addictive?

3 Steps to Unlocking Your Creativity using Cannabis

In these cases, I try other things like meditation, going for a walk or punching the living shit out of a boxing bag. What I’m getting at is that you can’t solely rely on cannabis to help you with creativity. The way I see it is that it’s merely a tool. Cannabis can help you connect to the creative elements in your life. Just don’t think it is the reason you’re creative. Your creativity comes from within; cannabis is just a tool that helps you access it more freely.

5 New Cannabis Strains You Need to Try in 2019

This brand-new cultivar, made by Symbiotic Genetics, is a delicious hybrid that tastes like vanilla wedding cake. It’s the love child of Wedding cake and Purple Punch, hence the grape notes. But aside from its terrific taste, what makes Wedding Crasher stand out is that it has a unique way of inducing mental sedation.

Cannabis-Themed Golf Course Opening on 4/20 in Canada

The Civilized feature also makes mention of the fact that mixing pot and golf isn’t a novel idea, citing a survey conducted by BC Golf revealing that more than half of Ontario’s young golfers intended to light up the next time they play golf. Weiske says that these people are his target audience, and hopes to see them as soon as Rolling Greens opens.

Manitoba Marijuana Users Say ‘Astronomical’ Price of Legal Weed Is a Deterrent

Canadians have been able to legally buy recreational marijuana for six months, but some say the prices are still too high. “It’s basically three times the price,” said Taylor, whose identity Global News is protecting. “The price is the biggest factor for me right now.” For nearly three years, Taylor has been purchasing her weed illegally through an online site in British Columbia to help her calm her anxiety. But on Oct. 17, like hundreds…

‘There’s a lot of money to be made here,’ says Inuvik town councillor. Wednesday marks six months since cannabis was legalized in Canada. At least one entrepreneur in the Northwest Territories hoped to be selling cannabis in a retail location by now, but he's not. Your 420 Checklist: What You Need for a Great April 20th

Depending on whether you live in a legal state or a prohibition state, dynamics can change drastically. In legal states, odds are that you won’t have to bring your own weed with you. You’d most likely be able to get some reefer on site without a problem. While you might still be able to get weed at a 420 event in a prohibition state, the opposite is just as likely. In these cases, bringing your own weed with you will ensure that you get to light up with everyone once the countdown reaches zero.

Why is the Military so Against Weed?

One of the primary reasons why the military maintains such a hardline stance on the issue is due to the illegality of the substance on a federal level. In other words, the US Military cannot permit the usage of cannabis unless the Federal Government removes cannabis from the Controlled Substance Act.

I’m Growing My Own Medicinal Cannabis and Asking the Police for Amnesty – Here’s Why

Fibromyalgia and a stroke in my 20s leave me in chronic pain – but after my landmark cannabis prescription was overruled, I refuse to go back to my costly prescription. In 1928, following centuries of cannabinoids being used in medicine, the UK made the decision to reclassify cannabis as an illegal substance based on its psychoactive effects, instead opting for other equally psychoactive compounds as legitimate medicine. Examples include anaesthetics, analgesics, anticonvulsants and anti-Parkinson drugs…

Cannabis Could Improve Orgasms for Women, Study Finds

Study finds women who used marijuana before sex were twice as likely to say they had 'satisfactory' orgasms. Around a third of women in the US have used cannabis before sex and those who do say they experienced increased desire and better orgasms, a study has found. The study published in journal Sexual Medicine found women who used marijuana before sex were twice as likely as those who did not to say they had “satisfactory”…

Everyone Sucks but Me – Are Cannabis Growers the New Computer Guys?

My advice for growers out there who get interviewed for a growing job or to join a grow team is not to bash the guy before you or burn down the solution to the problem you are looking at in the grow.  You can say things like “I am not sure this is the correct idea here”, or “This set up might make sense outdoors but for in here I would do X, Y, and Z”.  This niche is so new, and having been illegal for 80 years, many new faces are coming out to learn about growing for the first time in a legal setting.

Why isn't the Cannabis Industry More Women-Friendly?

An effective way of dealing with this issue would be to implement laws, such as those in certain communities which reserve some cannabis licenses for women, as well as minority-owned businesses. Another way to help would be for organizations to conduct skills training, such as helping women (and other minorities) learn how to write business plans particularly if they want to make the shift from the black market to the legal cannabis market. Mentorship would also be good.

Why is Biotech Institute, LLC Trying to Patent Every Cannabis Strain Known to Man?

Patents could affect our abilities to unlock the great medical and therapeutic prospects of cannabis. Is Cannabis the Answer to Soaring Teen Suicide Rates?

If my son or daughter was at risk of suicide and I have looked into all options, including therapy and current drugs on the market, cannabis would most certainly be on the list of things to talk about with him or her and something I would recommend to them if it had any chance to help them deal with the hopelessness, and feelings suicidal teens feel and are trying to deal with at any given moment.

Cannabis-Friendly Cities See Higher Home Prices Says New Study

When people decide where they are going to end up living, their choice casts a vote and so does their money. Real estate prices are a reflection, though it isn’t always perfect, of the willingness of people to pay money for certain amenities and local policies. The prices of real estate are an indication of whether or not people think that certain policies make a place more or less attractive to live in. And it’s clear that people think accessibility to cannabis makes a place more desirable.

Stop Putting All the Blame on Cannabis Edibles

Cannabis-infused food has been around for several decades now, but the government still hasn’t been able to wrap their heads around how it works. Instead, the authorities label them as dangerous and harmful. So are prescription drugs, but it isn’t getting as much flak as edibles are.

Oregon Has a Seven-Year Pot Supply, but Canada Can’t Have Any

Oregon’s legal cannabis growers have amassed so much marijuana that the state would take seven years to smoke it all, state legislators were told this week. The oversupply has led to a price crash, hard times for growers, and a proposed solution that would sound familiar to Canadian dairy farmers: supply management. The state’s vast cannabis surplus is in contrast to Canada. where shortages have caused temporary store closures in several provinces and led Ontario…

Inability To Ship Across State Lines Hurts Cannabis Businesses, Especially Small Operators

One of the defining challenges of the cannabis industry to date has been the inability of businesses to move products across state lines. Because cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, state-licensed cannabis businesses must cultivate, produce, and sell their products all within the confines of the state in which they are licensed. Nothing can cross state lines, even if the business is licensed in two contiguous states. One state is trying to change that,…

Why The Global Cannabis Industry Needs To Pay Attention To Colombia

Colombia currently has 126 firms that have been licensed to grow cannabis, but only 16 of them were qualified to produce seeds. Several well-known Colombian landrace strains will be featured.

The FDA Wants To Hear Your Opinion on CBD

The FDA isn’t shy about the fact that they don’t believe hemp-derived CBD is completely safe for consumption in food. They want to know about the types of standards that need to be established to make sure that all hemp-derived CBD additives are of high-quality and consistent, and what kind of information should be placed on labels so that consumers are aware of what they are taking and if there are any risks involved in doing so.

Companies’ Cannabis Policies Don’t Always Evolve With State Law

Legalization is spreading and the “4/20 Holiday” is predicted to be bigger than ever when it comes to legal cannabis sales. That means more Americans will be using marijuana for medical or recreational purposes, but have employers’ drug use policies changed with legalization? The situation is a challenging one for businesses. Marijuana Moment's Legislative Tracking Tools show more than 1,005 cannabis bills in state legislatures and Congress for 2019 sessions, so it’s hard for companies…
